It’s time for a touch of Sweden, i.e. sweet balls made of oats and chocolate known as chokladboll. I had the pleasure to try some of those while my short stay in Sweden and to tell the truth I love them! Moreover, it turns out that this dessert is really easy to prepare and you even don’t need any refined ingredients.

I got this recipe from a very sweet person who is totally into Swedish stuff :).

  • 5 cups fine oat flakes
  • 1 cup espresso
  • 3 bars of dark chocolate
  • 1/4 cup soy milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • desiccated coconut

Put oat flakes into a big bowl and sprinkle them with espresso. Melt chocolate in a hot bath (put chocolate into small bowl over a pot with hot water, pour few tbsp of soy milk, stir from time to time until chocolate melts). Next pour melted chocolate into bowl with oat flakes and stir (it’s not an easy task, you can use your hands and if oat flakes are too dry you can add more soy milk, preferred vanilla flavor). Next put your bowl into fridge and leave it until oat flakes cool down.

Finally add brown sugar and mix again. Form small balls and coat them in desiccated coconut. Chokladboll taste best when served cool or even straight from the freezer :).

It’s a really nutritious dessert and there’s nothing to be surprised about – oat flakes, chocolate, coconut? Can you think of a better treat?

These look AMAZING! What size chocolate bars do you use? And by fine oat flakes do you mean oat bran?

I use 100g chocolate bars. Oat bran is perfect for this recipe :).

Thanks! I cannot wait to try them. Just on a mission to get a six pack at the moment so it’ll have to be after that’s achieved :)

This recipe looks AMAZING and so so simple. I had them each day I was in Sweden, subsequently gaining some cushion, but I do miss them so! Thank you. Love your blog!
